You are not alone. Being diagnosed with and managing type 1 diabetes can feel isolating and lonely. We want you to know that you should never have to feel alone in addition to managing T1D.
Erin became a mom in 2012 when her first son was born. She became a T1D mom on December 27, 2013 when her son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 21 months of age. During that tumultuous first year Erin volunteered at a Junior League event where she met Alese, who also has T1D, and they bonded over their shared experiences. They both realized that having an understanding friend helped in managing a chronic condition. The idea of writing a blog blossomed and Sugar Rush Survivors was born. In addition to organizing play dates, counting carbs and playing with cars, Erin has a Masters degree in Museum Professions and a registrar consulting business, L.A. Art Services, LLC.
Alese was misdiagnosed as a type 2 diabetic in February of 2012. Even that diagnosis was a relief as it helped explain the chronic health issues she battled in her early thirties. Over the next year her diagnosis of T1D was confirmed. Alese has a Marketing degree from Auburn University. She spends her spare time with her family and rescued pit bulls.
From all of us at The Summit from Alex and Ani, please stop by some time! 🙂
